Into... trouble, adventures, disasters, journeys, misfits, trials, tribulations, laughter, joy, but most importantly I have gotten myself into some rewarding memories. No matter the outcome if a memory was ever made it was very well worth it. to me.
I thought that it would be kind of fun to write about the day and life of a Disney On Ice performer. Many people are very caught off guard when I explain my life to them. Yes, I do my own make up. No, I do not have a personal hair dresser or make up artist.
So... here are some of the dirty details, but promise me one thing. We will keep this between you and I (and everyone else that is exposed to this on the internet.... umm anyways shhhh)
Let's begin with the beginning of the week.
Monday (Friday): okay so it is the weekend for us. Either we are flying through the air or just arriving at the hotel early that morning, and when I say early like imagine 4:30 am. Totally normal. I usually spend my Monday settling into the hotel, looking on my iphone aps what is around me and then set off for the grocery store. I love it when the hotel offers shuttle to the nearest grocery stores because taxis are just a pain in the... butt. Monday night will most likely be spent cooking with my skillet in the hotel room (which is not allowed) or dinner at a near by restaurant with my roommate. I usually hit the gym sometime during all this weekend fun.
Tuesday (Saturday): pretty much just like Monday. Hanging out. Sometimes I like to scare my credit card so I head to the mall for some never much needed shopping. I find it amusing how I still manage to keep my bags at 50lbs each week.
Wednesday (Sunday): I usually relax on Wednesday due to either we open that night or the next night. I sometimes try to get away with renting a movie through the hotel, but I never get away with it.
Thursday (Monday): Who hates Mondays... I SURE DO! (especially when my monday is a thursday. pass). Unless the building is walking distance we usually get on the buses to head to the arena 2 hours before show on opening day. Once we arrive to the building that is when the madness begins. I dislike opening day due to, not knowing the arena so wondering to find everything and unpacking all of our crap.
First things first... check in. I get off the bus and head straight to the managers office to check in. Next, go to the make up room and find a spot to sit. I drop my bags off and then go find my lock box and skates. A lock box is something we use to keep all our show makeup or other essentials we have in. Once I retrieve everything out of my lock box, I put it in the makeup room and go straight to unpacking all my costumes. I have 5 costumes and it takes me about 5 minutes to unpack all. When we leave each city we have to zip everything up, as if it was just worn on a invisible person. After that is all done I start on my make up. Foundation, eyeshadow, eye liner, mascara, eye lashes, blush, brow liner, lip liner and finally lipstick. PHEW! On a good day we have about 25 min to get settled before company meeting at 1 hour before the show. So yes, I run around like a crazy person until that hour.
After company meeting we usually have notes with our performance director and then 25 minutes till the show we have group warmup. We warmup for 15 minutes and then do Barbie lifts after. It takes me about 10 minutes to get my show laundry and skates on and then it is show time!
Friday, Saturday, Sunday (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday): Usually at the arena all day doing rehearsals or shows. In between shows I am found reading, sleeping or writing blog posts. Somedays are longer than others, but we all manage to make it through. At least I can say I enjoy the people I work with because that would suck if otherwise.
We are in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week playing the state fair... HAHA! anyways. Garrett and I drove here in his car and let's just say the car ride was pretty... long. enjoy.
xoxo
