Answering your questions. When I came home for my "summer break" I was asked many questions about tour life. So I thought I would take a few minutes to rethink those questions and answer some that even I wonder the answers too.
Here we go.
* Where do you normally stay?
Each week we stay in hotels. From The Marriott to the Hilton they accommodate our very large group.
* How do you travel to each city?
We either travel by bus or plane. When the city is less than 500 miles we will bus and sometimes those bus rides can be very long; lasting through the night. When we travel by plane we pretty much fill the entire flight. Can you imagine us checking into the airline and then passing through security. Yeah it's a long process. The key is to be patient.
*How do you manage to sleep on the bus during those travel days?
We all have our ways to manage to find some sleep. Usually I am found popping a sleeping pill and finding some place on the ground. Yeah I know gross.
*How long are you in each city?
We are in each city about a week.
*Which city has been your favorite?
Last year my favorite city was Nashville, Tennessee. I recommend everyone to go there! It is WAY too much fun!
*What do you do for food?
Sometimes we are lucky to receive fridges in our hotel rooms, so on those weeks I usually cook all my meals. I grill chicken and veggies in my skillet. Weeks that we aren't so lucky, usually finding a local fast food restaurant to purchase all 3 meals.
*Does the company pay for your food?
No, the company only pays for one meal on a 3 show day. The meal is usually catered and the menu is most likely chicken and pasta. Carbs yumm...
*How many shows do you do each week?
Each week we do around 10 shows. Opening either Wednesday or Thursday.
*Do you have a makeup artist come and do all your makeup?
We all do our own make up. No makeup artist, or hair stylist.
*Are your makeup rooms like the ones in the movies with the circular light bulbs?
Our makeup rooms are a room set up with about 8 tables and 24 chairs. We set up a makeup spot with all of our stuff and a personal mirror. We also purchase are own makeup at our own expense.
*What is it like being a performer with Disney On Ice?
Being a Disney On Ice performer is adventurous. I learn something new everyday and this experience has forced me to open my eyes to reality and my surroundings from many different cities. Also, I get to play many different characters and roles which is fun, because I don't always have to be myself.
*Do you consider yourself famous?
No. haha but my Dad compares this experience to winning American Idol. Good one Dad.
*What are disadvantages of being on tour?
Disadvantages would be... not being with my family and friends from home. And sometimes experiencing things the hard way out.
*What do you do on your days off?
My days off I am usually sleeping in and then I will find the nearest grocery store. Our only transportation is taxi or hotel shuttles on a good week. The malls are fun to go to, but my credit card doesn't feel the same way. If there is something very cool in the city then I usually try to go see it, but it gets very expensive.
*How much do you get paid?
Yeah... Can't answer that. duhh...
*Do you ever get homesick?
Of course I get homesick! A lot actually :(
*Do you practice a lot outside of the show?
I try to skate after shows, but sometimes I am too exhausted. We do have rehearsals a lot actually.
*What is your favorite part about performing?
The reaction on the people's faces. It's truly priceless.
*Would you ever take this journey back?
No. This journey has been a roller-coaster, a once in a lifetime roller-coaster.
Feel free to ask any questions. Ones that I possibly missed.
